Interesting folklore of padmavati

One of the very famous story is as follows:-

Once upon a time, there was a ruler in the Kingdom of Varanasi by name of Mahipal, in the same city lived a wealthy merchant by name of Matisagar with his wife Gunsundri, and they had 7 sons who were very handsome and intelligent, well mannered out of them 6 were married and the youngest one, Gundhar was still a bachelor, once upon a time, while wandering in the jungle they met a Digamber Jain Monk, and Gunsundri asked for a blessing from the monk, Monk recited them about the benefits of Jain darshan and told her to keep fast on 9 Sunday consecutively, in name of Bhagwan Parsvanath, follow celibacy and only have food once in a day that to without salt and on completion of the fasts give lot of offerings to the poor and needy, when the whole family came to know of it everybody criticized her, for taking vows to keep these kind of fasts, as a result all the miseries fell on them and they became very poor . All the 7 sons moved to Ayodhya in search of a livelihood, and started working at the place of Merchant Jindutt.

After few months, a Jain monk arrived in the city who was a "Awadhi Gyani." Merchant Matisagar who has lost all the hopes went to him and narrated the whole series of incident. He said since, you had criticized the vows of fasting, because of the same all these miseries have fallen upon you. Now you again follow the same, with respect and faith. The couple as instructed started following the same.

All 7 brothers started spending their time in hardship, one day the youngest son 'Gundhar' forgot his Axe in the jungle, everyone said, "we don't even have money to eat food, and in these times of hardships from where will we buy a new axe. Feeling sad he again went to jungle in search of his axe, when he found it he saw a snake entangled with the axe. On seeing this he started reciting mantras with faith, remembering Tirthankar. As soon as Yaksha Dharendra, came to know of his suffering he sent Yakshni Padmavati to bless him. Mata Padmvati, then came and instructed Gundhar to be calm, and blessed him, and gave him few gifts like, a golden axe, a diamond necklace and a idol of Bhagwan Parsvanath made of precious stone, and told him to worship Bhagwan Parsvanath regularly and said he will be free of all the sorrows.

When they saw all this all the brother got shocked and when Gundhar recited the whole incident, they became very happy and started worshiping the Lord Parsvanath. As a result all of this their miseries started coming to end, when this news was heard by the King of Ayodhya, he got really impressed and got his daughter married to Gundhar. When they returned to Varanasi and narrated the whole series of incident to his father, on hearing this he was overwhelmed and they all stated living in riches and comfort. In the same way, it is said that Mata Padmavati bless all the people who worship, Lord Parsvanth.

It is believed that who all worship Mata Padmavati, gets himself free from all miseries and sorrows. There are lot of stories which reflect the miraculous power of the idols. There are lot of stories and incidents related to the same.
